Who is the woman of the world?
How do we picture her to ourselves?
In what way is she able to shape our future?
27 photographers from 17 countries and more than 200 women took part in the initiative. The goal of this project is to broaden the picture of a woman and with photo art celebrate her as the life force of our society, transformational force, an individual and social force in the PAST (50-70 years old women), PRESENT (30-40 years old) and FUTURE (10-25 years old). It is essential to underline the role of women in shaping our behavior and, transferring the cultural knowledge across generations and, therefore, carrying out our cultural modeling.
In April 2010 Garage Gang group organized Woman 3000 Tour that included the exhibition of 300 photographic stories to 5 of Ukraine (Kyiv, Lviv, Odessa, Simferopol, Kharkiv) in more than 20 alternative locations (parks, streets, maternity houses, markets, roads, hotels etc.), discussions "Woman in modern society: Looking for ways of self-realization" and press-conferences with music concerts, poetry on the street festival and other art doings. Project provides a dialogue between generations and adds some new energy to the discussion concerning possibilities of women’s self-realization at the beginning of the 3rd millennium.
Project is organized with participation of french writer Regine Deforges, american writer Tricia Warden, ukrainian artist Vlada Ralko, ukrainian writer Sofiya Andruhovych and ukrainian feminist Layma Geydar.

For a woman, we are born twice: for the first time, as a thought about future and for the second time, as a baby with soul and body. Woman commences realizing her unity with creative power of the universe starting from the moment when her child is still in embryo and up to the birth of the new human being. Each of us, without exception, for the first time felt his/her connection to the life by way of mother’s blood-vascular system, heart rhythm and breathing.
The project Woman 3000 grew out of need to investigate the way the ideas are generated and to understand who is responsible for creating ideas which determine the essence and the style of our living. In its turn, the life itself placed particular emphasizes and directed this initiative taking into account current world challenges and state of affairs in 17 countries. Woman as a primary source, as a key to the future and a subject of self-realization became an object under observation by photographers from various parts of the world.
At the beginning of a new era, woman to a far greater degree than ever before serves as a determinant of consumer policy in the society and thus, of the priority status of universal values, she urges driving forces in economic and cultural life. The unique feature which enhances project’s topicality is the opportunity to observe through images of women representing three generations the reflection of three historical periods. Each woman along with her desires, hopes, aims, and possibly fears is a sui generis time capsule: of the past (women over 60), present (women over 30), and future (women under 30). As a result, more than 200 women representing 17 nations participated in the project. 27 photographers from Argentina, Ukraine, Russia, Israel, Spain, Italy, Japan, France, Sweden, Rumania, Canada, the USA, Germany, Turkey, Australia, and the Netherlands worked with them. By demonstrating photographs of ordinary people introducing common real-life experiences the project is designed to draw attention to the idea that personal is political, as well as to the subject of equality and personal commitment to social processes.
A year and a half after generating the idea of the project, we carried 262 photographs of women to big and small Ukrainian cities, holding expositions in the open or using locations which are non-traditional for photo exhibitions, thereby attracting attention of people in the streets and parks. Women of different ages, different experience and beliefs, different interests and occupation discussed the role of women in shaping new traditions and transferring cultural values through generations and thus, in modeling the society. Besides reflecting the female world as it appears in 17 countries by means of photographic art, the project served as a sort of glue to provide a dialogue between generations and added some new energy to the discussion concerning possibilities of women’s self-realization at the beginning of the 3rd millennium.

Проект Жінка Woman 3000 виник з необхідності дослідити процеси народження ідеї, з потреби зрозуміти, хто відповідальний за створення ідей, які визначають суть і стиль нашого життя. Жінка як першоджерело, як ключ до майбутнього і суб’єкт самореалізації стала об’єктом спостереження для фотохудожників з різних куточків світу.
На початку нової епохи жінка більшою мірою, ніж будь-коли, визначає споживацьку політику суспільства, а тим самим – і пріоритетність загальнолюдських цінностей, задає основний імпульс рушійним силам в економіці та культурі. Унікальною особливістю, що посилює актуальність проекту, є можливість в образах жінок трьох поколінь спостерігати відображення трьох часових проміжків. Кожна жінка з її бажаннями, надіями, цілями і, можливо, страхами є своєрідною капсулою часу: Минулого (жінки після 60-ти), Сьогодення (жінки після 30-ти) і Майбутнього (жінки до 30-ти).
У проекті взяло участь понад 200 жінок 17-ти націй, з якими працювало 27 фотографів з Аргентини, України, Росії, Ізраїлю, Іспанії, Італії, Японії, Франції, Швеції, Румунії, Канади, США, Німеччини, Туреччини, Австралії, Нідерландів. Демонструючи фотографії звичайних людей, які репрезентують прості життєві ситуації, проект привертає увагу до ідеї, що особисте – це і є політичне, а також до теми рівності і персонального залучення до суспільних процесів.
“Жінки розуміють: світ – їхній, тут вони вдома. Та правила, за якими функціонує суспільство і природа, часто здаються їм надто суворими. Вони фізіологічно тендітні, мають тонку шкіру, маленькі руки. Їхні судження про себе ґрунтуються на ставленні до них інших людей. На жінок кричить рекламна індустрія. У них завищені вимоги до себе і невпинне бажання покращувати все навколо”. - звертається Саша Кальцова, лідерка музичного гурту “Крихітка” зі сторінок художньої книги проекту Жінка 3000.
Проект Жінка Woman 3000 має на меті розширити картину сприйняття сучасної жінки у суспільстві, пропагувати роль її “культурних інстинктів” у формуванні нових традицій і передачі культурного багажу через покоління і, таким чином, у здійсненні суспільного моделювання, а також створити своєрідний місток для діалогу щодо ґендерних питань та можливостей питань у ЗМІ та додати енергії дискусії щодо можливостей самореалізації жінки в суспільстві на початку 3-го тисячоліття.
23-го квітня проект відкрився у Києві, а 24-го вирушив у мистецький тур країною. У кожному місті експозиції були представлені у різноманітних масових та/чи специфічних локаціях - від парку, вулиці, закладу харчування та галереї до пологового будинку, торгового центру та психіатричної лікарні. На головних локаціях міст пройшли міні-фестиваль Поезія на вулицях, Жива бібліотека (“жінки-книги”, яких можна читати), виступили музичні гурти, театральні групи, сучасні художники представили свої акції та перформанси.
Для проекту Жінка Woman 3000 були створені короткі фільми про Реджін Дефорж, Владу Ралко, Софію Андрухович, Лайму Гейдар, які демонструвалися на прес-конференціях проекту у містах.
Реалізація проекту відбувалась понад півтора року. За цей час у його реалізації взяло участь понад півтисячі людей.
